March Against Racism

I choose this photo because you can see the hills of Duluth and the big ol houses which are mostly broken up into apartments and rented out. It is symbolic that the students would march through this neighborhood because so many students live in this neighborhood, as well as others including myself.

Today hundreds of people marched in silence from Central Hillside, through East Hillside, Chester Park and onto the student union in Kirby Center at UMD, University of Minnesota Duluth. The march was to highlight the need to stand against racism in response to a Facebook conversation made on a public “wall” but two white UMD students about a black UMD student who was in the same room.

Being silent is a non-violent approach and is a metaphor for our voices that have been swept beneath the rugs of the institutions that we individually represent.
