As I walked out of the Post Office in Lincoln Park, I noticed a bird on the top of  the flag pole. I had to look twice, it wasn’t an eagle and it was real.

Sunflower stalk in the winter.

This sunflower stalk, at the Duluth Grill, is left over from the summer. I wonder if owner Tom Hanson and his gardener, Francois  Medion have ordered their seeds for this summer’s garden.

Read about the garden here.

Here’s a link that give a list of uses for dried sunflower stocks.

This photo was taken around 4 p.m. You can see that it is already getting a little dark. On the upper right-hand corner is Enger Tower, a Duluth landmark. Lincoln Park is a neighborhood that stretches from Garfield Avenue or 16the Avenue West to the ore docks at Carlton Street or 34th Avenue West. The neighborhood has undergone efforts to revitalize. It used to be home to many of the steel foundries and has a more industrial feel to it. Their are still a few manufacturing plants including Duluth Pack at 1610 W. Superior and Aero Design & Mfg. Co., Inc. at 8. S 18th Ave. W. Aero Design makes motorcycle-riding jackets and suits.

(Some people prefer the term West End to Lincoln Park. I am not sure but I think Lincoln Park was introduced as a new term by the Lincoln Park Business Group.)

Do you know where this photo was taken? Take a guess and then look below this line.

Innerspace Scuba Center in Lincoln Park, 32 N 21st Ave W

Innerspace Scuba Center has been in business for more than 15 years. Initially started and ran by local diver and marine historian Elmer Engman. Over the years, Elmer has shown many people the wonders of the under-water world through many college scuba classes for the University of Minesota-Duluth and the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Duluth Community Education, and Innerspace classes. With more classes offered than any other local dive store, Innerspace quickly became the leader in diving education in the Duluth, MN area.

The Duluth Grill put raised bed garden in their parking lot in place of  a few of their parking spots.

I saw these gardens when I dropped of my Everyday Duluth Calendars. We made a special display for them and Tom Hansen, the owner, is displaying them on the front counter.
