    Commonwealth: An English term for a political community founded
    for the common. Synonymous with republic. This definds the term, You say that the street separates the two comunities, so I guess that is why the name was choosen, and sound like a good choice.

    I think it was because everyone in the area received the same wages, thus “commonwealth”. Unlike the current government who would like to change the name of the avenue to “Sharethewealth” lol Tom8-)
