Elephants: symbols of prospertity, good luck, patience and chasity

These elephants welcome visitors to this Congdon home on East Third Street. Elephants are symbols of prosperity, wealth, good luck, strength and power. It also represents perseverance, in that it is an extremely hard working animal. Some worship the elephant so much as to make it their national symbol, such as Thailand. Elephants are also seen as symbols of wisdom and dignity, because of their incredible intelligence and very long life span. In Christian symbolism  the elephant is an icon of temperance, patience, and chastity.

Of course in the United State they are associated with the Republican Party.

National Night Out

August 3 is National Night Out. The police and fire departments encourage neighbors to ask for permission to close the street for a block party as a way to get to know the neighbors. Knowing the neighbors helps prevent crime. Police and fire fighters made visits to many block parries throughout Duluth. Over 50 block parties were planned.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
